Breakfast Club Trick or Treats for Christian and Hilltop Food Pantries

November 1, 2015, Breakfast Club and Union Community Church's members and adults went Trick or Treating for two food pantries.
Bob and Carol Stoner had left notes attached to sacks the week before in the area we Trick or Treated.  Many were away from home but left a sackful of items for us to pick up.  After going to the houses, we played at the nearby park, and then returned to Union Community Church for pizza.
Fun day!

Breakfast Clubbers Learn About Jesus' Temptations in the Desert +++

Barb Punter relating the story of Jesus' 30 days of temptations in the desert and more!!!
(see below next four pictures)

Did you notice the girl wearing the crown?
Barb Stoner made King Cakes for the group.
(sorry - currently no picture)
King cakes are eaten Epiphany Eve (Jan.5th) through Fat Tuesday (prior to Lent). It's a circular cake with three colors on top:
purple for Justice
green for Faith
yellow for Spiritual Power
There is a tiny plastic baby inside.  The children who found the baby got to wear the king hats.  Usually if you find the baby in your piece of cake, you make the cake for the next year.

A special thank you to Cleo and Larry Smith ~ long and faithful servants of Jesus Christ through Breakfast Club!
We will miss you!
Thank you Barb & Carol and all the Breakfast Club volunteers for all you do!

A Monday Morning in the Life of Breakfast Club

We pick up the kids from their homes; serve them breakfast and visit with them; have circle time of singing, story, and prayer lead by Barb Punter; think, learn, share; and then off to school.  Many times we have a relevant craft project too.

Family Christmas Celebration

December 22, 2014 Breakfast Club Families and Volunteers met at the former Reiner Community Room at 510 Union Street.  Pizza and drinks were provided and everyone brought a simple dessert to share.  Due to pouring rain and cold weather we caroled in the hallways for the residents.  Some of the ladies joined us for our desserts and we were able to get to know each other better.  There were crafts and lots of visiting. And the evening ended with carols around the piano.  Wonderful evening!  See more details below the pictures please.

Each family was given a copy of Eugene Peterson's  children's story, The Christmas Troll.  The main message is that "gifts are for giving and receiving, not for grabbing and getting."  It also talks about gifts being something other than presents wrapped in paper and tied with a bow, under a tree.  And that we should "live expectantly, watching for God's gifts."  The gifts were given and then there was discussion about the gift they would be giving (AND receive in the giving) by sharing Christmas carols with our neighbors.

Thank you to Esta Rosario for sharing the FUMC Choir's caroling books!
