Neighborhood Caroling

The sponsorship of our weekly breakfasts and of events like our caroling party lastWednesday night (that allow children the chance to practice serving others) is greatly appreciated.  (A special thanks to Esta for the songbooks!)

About 34 voices with songbooks and flashlights spread some Christmas cheer and songs of incarnation through the Hilltop neighborhood.  Approximately 45 enjoyed fellowship and pizza from neighborhood eatery, Gabriella's.  After singing, we enjoyed cocoa from leftover Rays of Hope milk, and cookies we ALL brought to share.  Children were so tickled to receive TWO scarves hand-knit by Methodists--one to wear and one to share/give away.

Thanks for FUMC's support of the Hilltop kids and families

Welcome to our new Hilltop Ministrry Blog

Breakfast Clubbers listen intently on a typical Monday morning
Welcome... we're starting a new way to communicate with our congregation at Valparaiso 1st UMC and others.   We hope that you will check back periodically to see what we are doing through this amazing ministry.   Pray for our team, join our team, and dream with our team.  You are invited to participate at whatever level that fits you and your schedule.

Breakfast Club has existed since 2001 and it meets during the school year on Monday's at 7:00 a.m.   The  Hilltop Ministry team provides transportation, cooks the breakfast, serves the Central Elementary children, and plans story and connecting craft activity.  The kids take turns praying over our food and lighting the Christ candle each week.
Breakfast Club children are invited to participate in our summer camping program and many have found this to be the highlight of their summer.  Thanks to Valparaiso 1st UMC and Indiana Conference camperships are provided to enable all children who wish to participate the opportunity to go.   Our ministry team assists in transportation to and from the camp setting.
Our adult team of 10 loves the time to interact with the children.   Over time friendships are made with the kids and their families.  What a blessing it is to serve and be served by those we meet.

Hilltop Neighborhood House, Inc is our connection for offering to spend time with children in the Hilltop area.  For ore information about other ministries, visit their website.
